TROY
Troy is the comic strip (and later animated short) I wrote and illustrated from 1998 to 2011. I created the comic strip for a new, gay, glossy magazine in Los Angeles, BENT Magazine. The editors wanted a funny comic about gay life in West Hollywood. The strip ran in BENT Magazine for a year, and then when BENT closed down, the publishers of a few other papers picked it up. The comic strip grew to become syndicated internationally, running in publications throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, parts of South America, the United Kingdom, and Australia, in the book “Growing Up Gay In America” by Jason Rich, and on the web sites 365Gay.com, owned by LOGO, B.I.T.C.H. in South Africa, and Eshalem.com in Turkey. The strip won two WeHo Awards, one in 2003, and one in 2006.
The animated short "Troy: Naked Boys Behind Bars, Sing!" screened in various film festivals around the world from 2011 to 2013. It is a silly, sweet, slightly sarcastic, musical satire of gay culture and gaysploitation entertainment. The story follows nice guy Troy McDougall, a twenty-something, out-and-proud, gay actor as he gets what he believes will be his big break into The Business, a lead in the world premier of the new musical “Naked Boys Behind Bars, Sing!” I wrote, directed, and animated the short and was fortunate to get Euriamis Losada, Ben Patrick Johnson, Maurice Jamal, Doug Spearman, Jason Boegh, and Bruce Vilanch to do voices for the film.
